Dr. Wilfried Vanhonacker is recognized worldwide as a leading scholar in the field of marketing science and an expert on doing business in China and the globalization of Chinese enterprises. His academic research focuses on building models of consumer choice behavior which includes work on avoidance behavior, brand building and brand extensions. Dr. Vanhonacker has also been studying Chinese consumers’ choice behavior and decision making with focus on building brand credibility in an emerging market. He is currently involved in a major retail study in China which investigates retail format competition from a shoppers’ perspective.

Dr. Vanhonacker played a key role in creating and establishing the China-Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, China, of which he was Dean and Vice President. Having been involved extensively with foreign corporations operating in and doing business with China since 1985, he has developed extensive experience and expertise in setting up and operating businesses in China. He consults widely on China and marketing strategy in general. He is a senior partner in a Shanghai-based company specializing in marketing strategy and human capital development in China.

Dr. Vanhonacker is the author of numerous academic publications and four books. His most recent book, The China Casebook (McGraw-Hill 2004), is the first casebook printed with cases exclusively about foreign companies and domestic companies in China. His classic 1997 Harvard Business Review article on China entry strategies was reprinted in the best-selling book Harvard Business Review on Doing Business in China (HBS Publishing 2004).

Dr. Vanhonacker has been on the faculty of the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University (New York, US), INSEAD (Fontainebleau, France), and HKUST Business School (Hong Kong) and is currently international dean of SKOLKOVO, a newly-established and privately-funded business school in Moscow, Russia. He gained a PhD in Management from Purdue University (Indiana, US) in 1979.

Since September 19, 2007, Dr. Vanhonacker is the co-dean of the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO.
